Three people were killed and four others injured when the car they were traveling in rammed into a truck on National Highway 48 near Nelahaal, within Kora police station limits in Tumakuru district on Monday.
The deceased were identified as Aniketh, 42, Abhir, 44, and Sanokthi, 35. The injured victims were shifted to different hospitals.
Police said all the victims were working in a private firm in Bengaluru and had gone on a trip to Gokarna, Murudeshwar and Udupi over the long weekend. The accident took place while they were returning to Bengaluru.
A preliminary investigation indicated the car was speeding and rear-ended the truck, police said. The impact was strong, leaving the car completely wrecked and the occupants trapped inside the vehicle. Passers-by joined the police and together they rescued the injured.
Traffic on the highway was disrupted for some time.
The police registered the case.
