The government has decided to conduct forensic audits in all districts to detect irregularities related to the Dharani portal, after a pilot audit conducted in Siddipet and Sircilla revealed numerous violations.
Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said those who used loopholes in the Dharani portal to grab government land and siphon off registration revenue would be dealt with strictly.
Addressing a high-level committee meeting at the secretariat, the minister said a forensic audit conducted with the help of a central government agency had revealed serious irregularities during the previous regime. Based on the findings, the government decided to extend the audit to the remaining 31 districts.
According to officials, around 35,000 transactions have been recorded on the Dharani portal since its inception, while deficiencies were found in 4,848 cases during the initial review. A detailed investigation revealed that government fees of nearly ₹ 4 crore were not paid in respect of 1,109 registration documents. Criminal cases have already been registered against 48 persons involved in irregularities across 35 mandals in nine districts.
The minister said the Dharani portal was introduced without adequate safeguards, allowing it to be misused by vested interests. He said the government has initiated corrective measures through audits conducted through the Bhu Bharati portal and set up a high-level committee to ensure accountability.
Mr. Reddy also announced that licenses would be issued to 2,000 more trained inspectors in Khammam on Sunday, in addition to the 4,000 already licensed. These surveyors will carry out survey operations in 373 villages without cadastral maps.
Responding to criticism from the opposition, the minister dismissed allegations of widespread corruption as baseless and accused opposition leaders of rash statements. He said that the government would make scientific efforts to reorganize the district in accordance with public opinion.
