The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday (January 23, 2026) questioned the passage of a resolution in the Tamil Nadu Assembly opposing several provisions of the Viksit Bharat-Garantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act (VB-G RAM G Act) and asked whether it was approved by the state assembly when it passed the Constitution Act.
BJP MP and spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said at a press conference, “If a bill has been duly passed by the Parliament of India and has not been challenged or obstructed by the Supreme Court, does any state assembly have the constitutional power to pass the bill against it?”
“Your assembly has passed a resolution. Does any district panchayat or municipal corporation have the power to pass legislation that says it will not obey the laws of the state? If not, the same logic applies in this case too. And I would like to ask Rahul Gandhi whether the constitution is in jeopardy if an act of parliament is openly flouted by the state assembly,” he said.
On Friday, the Tamil Nadu Assembly passed a resolution urging the Union government to ensure protection of the right to work of people in rural areas under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act.
Targeting Mr Gandhi for referring to the law as “VB GRAM G”, Mr Trivedi said: “…this reflects the hatred, contempt and disrespect of the Congress party towards Lord Rama and their determination to eradicate Sanatana Dharma, which is the promise of the Tamil Nadu government.”
