Several shops, including one selling furniture, in a shopping complex on Maratha Galli in Hubballi were gutted in a fire that broke out on Thursday evening.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the fire.
Commissioner of Police N. Shashikumar told reporters on Friday that several passers-by noticed the fire on the third floor of the Sukh Sagar shopping complex in Maratha Galli on Thursday evening and alerted the police.
Upstairs was a furniture showroom called Metro.
HZS workers went to the place after being notified. It took a while to put out the fire.
Since some residential buildings are adjacent to the complex, steps were taken to evacuate the residents immediately as a precautionary measure. Fortunately, no one was injured in the fire, he said.
He said a case has been registered and an investigation will be launched to find out the cause of the fire.
According to preliminary information, the cause of the fire is a short circuit. While items in the furniture store were completely gutted, stores on other floors also suffered damage. The extent of the loss is estimated.
