The Ernakulam District Court on Thursday received what later turned out to be a fake bomb threat. The threat was allegedly sent by email to the court’s official email address.
The threat report was that five bombs would explode in the court complex at 2:35 p.m. The blast was planned as part of a protest demanding the implementation of the Nainar Das Police Union’s 1979 recommendations for police constables in Tamil Nadu. Similar threats have reportedly been issued recently to various entities, including the country’s courts and airports.
Although bomb squads and K9 units searched the crowded Ernakulam court complex soon after police were alerted, nothing suspicious was found.
The Ernakulam Central Police on Thursday registered a case regarding the incident under Section 217 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (giving false information to public servants with intent to harm others) and Section 118(b) (knowingly spreading rumours, or giving false alarm to mislead the police, fire brigade or any other essential service (by others)) and Section 120 (by any means of communication) of the Kerala Police Act, 2011.
