Stand-up comedian Abijit Ganguly hilariously lost a ₹He bet 500 on one of his fans, Jasik Narul, during the show. His “Bengaliness” was questioned. Here is what happened.
During his stand-up show, comedian Abijit Ganguly struck up a casual conversation with a woman in the audience. First he asked her name. She replied that her name was Jasika. Ganguly then asked what he did for a living. Jasika said she worked as a brand manager at Sunrise Pure.
Ganguly curiously asked what kind of product the company was making. Jasika replied that he was selling spices. When Ganguly asked what kind of spice, she looked surprised and asked if she really didn’t know.

Ganguly jokingly pushed him away and said there was no reason for him to know every type of spice. He added that the conversation sounded like he was talking to his wife. He wondered why such details were expected of him.
replied Jasika. According to her, every Bengali knows the brand. Ganguly disputed this and asked if not knowing the spices made him less Bengali.
“I used to listen to ‘Ekla Chalo’ a hundred times a day. I have a Tagore tattoo on my chest. Just because I haven’t heard of Sunrise Masala, I’m not Bengali enough!” Ganguly joked.
Jasika then teased him by saying that he probably wouldn’t know about Sunrise masala because he didn’t cook. She also insisted that his mother would definitely know the company.
Ganguly picked up on this and confidently asked if she was sure his mother would know. Jasika emphatically insisted that she was.
“Every Bengali is aware of this,” she pointed out.

The exchange went to the next level when Ganguly proposed a bet ₹100. Jasika raised to ₹500 which drew huge laughs from the audience.
After the bet was announced, Abijit Ganguly decided to call his mother live on stage to settle the argument. A stand-up comedian greeted her. His mother asked, “Didn’t you have a performance today?” Ganguly said yes and mentioned that he was in the middle of that show.
Abijit then told her that he had to ask her an important question. He directly asked her if she knew what Sunrise Pure was. Without any hesitation, the mother confidently replied that it was a spice company.
Surprised, Abijit immediately asked how he knew. His mother casually explained that the brand could be found in almost every Bengali household.
“Why? Do you need it?” she asked.
