Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has voiced his desire to participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The left-arm pacer, who retired from international cricket for the second time last year, mentioned that he could become eligible to play in the tournament by 2026. He expressed his willingness to seize the opportunity if it arises, potentially marking his IPL debut.
“By next year, I will have the opportunity to play in the IPL, and if given the chance, then why not? I will play in the IPL,” Amir stated during an appearance on the Haarna Mana Hai show.
Pakistan Players and IPL: A Complicated Past
Pakistani cricketers were part of the inaugural IPL season in 2008. However, due to strained diplomatic relations between India and Pakistan, they have been excluded from the league since then. Despite this, former Pakistan all-rounder Azhar Mahmood participated in the IPL as a foreign player, representing Punjab Kings in 2012 and 2013 and Kolkata Knight Riders in 2015, owing to his British citizenship.
Amir, whose wife Narjis holds UK citizenship, is currently in the process of obtaining a British passport. This move could enable him to enter the IPL as an overseas player, similar to Mahmood.

Mohammad Amir Reveals His Preferred IPL Team
When asked about his preferred IPL team, Amir immediately named Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Former Pakistan cricketer Ahmed Shehzad, who was part of the discussion, endorsed Amir’s choice, highlighting RCB’s longstanding struggles with their bowling attack.
“RCB needs a bowler like Amir to address their bowling issues. They have a strong batting lineup, but their bowling has always been a weak link. If Amir plays for RCB, they can win the title,” Shehzad remarked.
