
Parts of Kerala’s coastal areas are likely to experience the Kallakkadal phenomenon – a sudden swell of the sea causing violent waves – from 8.30 pm on Wednesday to 11.30 pm on Thursday.
According to a bulletin issued by India’s National Center for Ocean Information Systems on Wednesday, there is a possibility of sea erosion on the coast of Kollam and Alappuzha districts due to a surge of 0.4 to 0.6 meters.
Along the Kanyakumari coast, waves could be 0.6 to 0.8 meters high due to swell from 5.30pm on Wednesday to 11.30pm on Thursday as part of the phenomenon. Fishermen and coastal residents have been urged to be alert.
