125 autism support centers mark AP government’s push for inclusive education, says MLA
Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Member and Andhra Pradesh Committee for Welfare of Children with Special Needs (CWSN) Chairman Sundarapu Vijay Sreekumar on Thursday reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to inclusive education.
Speaking at the valedictory session of the two-day round table on ‘Making Inclusive Education from School to University’ jointly organized by Sri Aurobindo Society and Andhra Loyola College, Mr. Sreekumar said that the establishment of 125 autism support centers in government schools this year reflects Andhra Pradesh’s determination to make inclusive education a reality – from the anganwadis level.
The MLA called for coordinated efforts between the ministries of women and child welfare, schools, colleges and universities and the health ministry to ensure quality education for every child with special needs.
Anthony Thiagarajan, Chennai, as Industry Partner, Vice President and HR Head, Malladi Drugs and Pharmaceuticals said inclusive education is not only a social responsibility but also an investment in the future of children, families and communities. He stressed that industry and society must actively support educational pathways for children with disabilities, adding that the future belongs to those who can learn, unlearn and relearn.
The roundtable recommended stronger collaboration between government, educational institutions, families, industry and civil society, continuous capacity building of educators and parents, strengthening of Bhavit and institutional resource centers with available technologies and development of structured parent support systems.
Chief Human Resources Officer and Chief Program Officer of Sri Aurobindo, Simmi Mahajan and others also spoke.
