David Beckham has given a measured and somewhat cryptic response following his son Brooklyn Peltz Beckham’s recent lengthy social media post criticizing the family.
During an appearance on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” on Jan. 20, the 50-year-old reflected on how social media often creates an environment where people are prone to make “mistakes.”
“I’ve always talked about social media and the power of social media. For good and for bad,” Beckham said. “The bad stuff we talked about with what kids have access to these days, it can be dangerous.”
He continued: “I use what I personally found, especially with my children, for the right reasons. I was able to use my platform and my following for UNICEF. And it was the biggest tool to inform people about what is happening for children around the world.”
“I’ve tried to do the same thing with my kids, raise them. They make mistakes, but kids are allowed to make mistakes. That’s how they learn. That’s what I try to teach my kids. Sometimes you have to let them make those mistakes,” Beckham added.
Huge revelations made by Brooklyn Beckham on Instagram
Brooklyn Beckham publicly acknowledged his long-term estrangement from his parents, former soccer player David Beckham and fashion designer Victoria Beckham, in a detailed statement shared on Instagram on January 19, 2026.
The 26-year-old said he had been silent for years but felt compelled to speak out after what he described as continued media narratives about his family that he felt were inaccurate. In his posts, Brooklyn made it clear that he didn’t want to reconcile with his family, saying that he was “standing up for himself for the first time in his life.”
In his account, Brooklyn accused his parents of controlling the press around his family and prioritizing public image over real relationships. He claimed that repeated attempts by his parents and their team to handle stories about the Beckham family left him “no choice but to speak for myself”.
He also claimed that they had already tried to “endlessly destroy” his marriage to his wife, actress Nicola Peltz Beckham, ahead of their 2022 wedding, and that such a dynamic contributed to his growing desire for independence, peace and privacy.
