A pediatric surgeon from Guntur presented a research paper on congenital hydronephrosis at the European Society of Pediatric Urology (ESPU) World Congress 2026 held in Paris, France last week.
Dr. Yerra Rajesh, a pediatric surgeon at Yerras Superspeciality Hospital who presented the research paper, said at a press conference here on Thursday that many expectant parents feel anxious when antenatal scans show hydronephrosis in the baby. However, he said that nearly 80% of such cases resolve spontaneously under active medical supervision and do not require immediate intervention. The remaining cases may require medical attention or surgery if the condition does not improve.
Dr. Rajesh’s research focused on hydronephrosis, a condition involving swelling of the kidneys in children. The study was presented at the 36th ESPU Congress, an international forum attended by pediatric urology specialists and medical researchers from different countries.
According to the doctor, the research highlighted the importance of early diagnosis and appropriate follow-up in the management of congenital hydronephrosis. He said modern diagnostic methods and treatment protocols can help prevent complications and improve long-term outcomes for affected children.
Dr. Rajesh said the opportunity to present the paper came after he was selected from the research papers received from different parts of the world. He said the insights gained from the conference would be useful to further strengthen pediatric urology services for patients in the region.
