
Annamayya police on Monday (January 19, 2026) arrested a man on charges of allegedly targeting passengers and women in buses and recovered stolen property worth ₹15 lakh. The accused stole laptops from passengers and robbed women traveling alone, police said.
According to Superintendent of Police Dheeraj Kunuguli, the accused has been identified as Thota Naresh of Diguva Sarimadugu village in Gurramkonda mandal of the district. On January 13, 2026, Naresh allegedly threatened one Rallapalli Reddamma at Gudivandlapalle of Sambepalli mandal with a knife and tried to rob her gold ornaments. However, when she fought back, Naresh took her laptop and fled.
The Rayachoti police launched an investigation with the help of CCTV footage and with the help of Cyber Crime and CCS teams, identified the accused and took him into custody at Kona Cross on the Gurramkonda – Kalakada road. Based on the confession of the accused, the police seized 23 laptops, 21 chargers, a mobile phone, a two-wheeler and a knife used to commit the crime.
The SP asked commuters to be careful while traveling in buses and take proper care of their laptops, luggage and other valuables.
