Financial assistance to Wayanad landslide survivors to continue: Minister

January 18, 2026

Financial assistance to the people affected by the landslides in Wayanad will continue, Revenue Minister K. Rajan said.

In Thrissur on Saturday, Mr. Rajan said any apprehensions regarding financial support were baseless. The state government has already announced that the assistance will continue till the rehabilitation of the affected people is completed, he said.

Rental assistance

Mr. Rajan said the government had spent ₹ 15.64 crore on providing financial assistance. As of August 2024, ₹6,000 each was provided as rental assistance to 813 beneficiaries who had lost their homes and were living in rented accommodation. Almost half of them have returned home within months, and 425 grantees still staying in rented houses as of December 2025 have been assisted by this month. “Reports that financial assistance has been cut off were false. The government has not yet spared no expense in helping the people. That would not change,” he said.

The government, the minister said, is continuing its rehabilitation efforts. A total of 289 houses received new roofs, concrete walls for 300 houses were completed and foundations for 312 houses were completed. Besides, the construction of the township will be completed quickly, he said.

Livelihood assistance

The government, the minister said, has also decided that in case of loss of livelihood, an amount of ₹ 300 per day will be given to two family members using the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund for three months. This assistance was also provided from August 2024. Funds were provided later for another three months. All who arrived at the first camp were given this assistance. Later, those struggling with a lack of livelihood were identified and assistance was provided until December 2025. A total of 1,185 people from 656 families benefited. Funds for January 2026 will be paid after the order is issued.
