Leaders of the Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee met Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi and All India Congress Committee President Mallikarjun Kharge in New Delhi on Saturday to brief them on the party’s preparations for the upcoming Assembly elections in the Union Territory.

PCC leaders, including former Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy, Member of Parliament and PCC chief V. Vaithilingam, briefed the national leader on recent political developments in Puducherry and measures taken to strengthen the party’s organization ahead of the elections. Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal was also present.

“The meeting, which was earlier scheduled for last month, was postponed following Mr. Gandhi’s trip to Germany. We briefed him on the election preparations and briefly discussed seat-sharing with the alliance partners. Talks on seat-sharing for Puducherry will be held in detail only after the AICC decides on its alliance in Tamil Nadu,” said a senior leader.

Telangana CM invited

The PCC has invited Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to inaugurate the ‘Walk4Puducherry’ yatra, which the party plans to launch in the Union Territory from January 21.

“The PCC president invited Mr. Reddy to inaugurate the yatra. During the meeting on Saturday, Mr. Gandhi also asked about the preparations. We have asked the AICC to represent senior leaders to participate in the yatra,” the leader said.

Last month, Mr. Vaithilingam announced at a press conference the Congress party’s plan to take out the yatra in an attempt to expose the misdeeds of the AINRC-BJP government and set the tone for the Congress’ campaign for the parliamentary polls.
