‘Not even 5% of what Rohit Sharma did’: India coach criticized by ex-teammate | Cricket News – The Tech Word News

January 18, 2026
Former India cricketer Manoj Tiwary has come down heavily on India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate for his comments on Rohit Sharma’s recent form in the ongoing ODI series against New Zealand. Ten Doeschate suggested that Rohit’s modest returns – scores of 26 and 24 in the first two matches – could be due to a lack of playing time. However, Rohit returned to international cricket with flying colors in October, scoring a fifty and a hundred in the ODI series in Australia to win the Player of the Series award, before carrying that momentum into India’s home series against South Africa. He also played in Mumbai’s first two games of the Vijay Hazare Trophy last month, including an impressive century in the opener.

Speaking to PTI, Tiwary, who was ten Doeschate’s former IPL teammate at KKR, said, “I would like to say with great respect to Ryan the Doeschate that he was with me for four years at KKR. There is no doubt that he is a very good person, but I think he should look at it. respect – it is not even 5% of what Rohit has achieved in his career not only as a batsman but also as a captain.” Tiwary described the comment as demoralizing, especially considering it came from a support staff member, and urged Ten Doeschate to think about his words. “He has given so much happiness to the nation by winning the Champions Trophy as well and then when he talks like that when he is in the team, not like he is sitting at home and commenting, he is part of the management and talking about your player like that is demoralizing. I don’t know why he said that. He needs to think about it. I feel he must not make such comments,” added Tiwary. India will face New Zealand in the final ODI of the three-match series on January 18 in Indore. Rohit, who has retired from Tests and T20Is, will then take a break from international cricket ahead of India’s summer tour of England.
