Athens police arrested a young man on charges of kidnapping and attempted religious conversion of an underage girl.
According to sources, the Athan police arrested the youth and rescued the minor girl in Bengaluru. He was identified as Sahil, a resident of Athani.
According to available information, the youth took the minor girl to Bengaluru a week ago and allegedly planned to marry her after she turns 18 on January 28.
Based on a complaint filed by the parents, the Athan police formed two teams and raced the couple in Bengaluru. Preliminary investigations revealed reports of religious conversion being carried out, sources said.
