Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials probing the alleged liquor scam have summoned former Rajya Sabha member V Vijayasai Reddy in the case.

ED officials on Friday served a notice to Mr. Reddy to appear before investigating officers on January 22.

The government has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the alleged multi-crore scam in which a fraud of ₹3,500 crore was allegedly committed.

The police, who arrested several suspects, including a Member of Parliament, a retired IAS officer, owners of shell companies and other accused, had earlier questioned Mr Vijayasai Reddy in the case.

It was alleged that officials of various departments colluded with some public representatives, changed liquor policy, received kickbacks, introduced new brands and resorted to corruption during 2019–24.

The ED, which is probing the money laundering aspect of the alleged multi-crore scam, has directed Mr. Vijayasai Reddy to appear before the investigating officers. Earlier, the former MP said he was ready to cooperate with the investigating police officers on the case.
