The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday searched the room of a doctor working at the Christian Medical College (CMC) in Vellore.
Police sources said that along with Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel, a seven-member team from Chennai reached the doctors’ quarters near the CMC campus around 7.30 a.m. The searches were conducted in the room of a junior doctor in a two-storey building. The operation was linked to the doctor’s family business, police sources said.
In the official statement Dr. Vikram Mathews, director of CMC, clarified that any activity reported in the living quarters assigned to the employee in his individual capacity has no connection with CMC or its operations.
Stating the same as the action of the ED at CMC, Vellore is factually incorrect and misleading, he observed. He also said that the recent reports suggesting that the ED action was taking place at CMC, Vellore were completely false and misleading. There was no raid, search or ED investigation at CMC and the institution was functioning normally without any disruption, the statement said.
