
Assembly Speaker AN Shamseer paid tribute to educationist AP Majeed Khan on Wednesday.
Chancellor of Noorul Islam Center for Higher Education and Chairman of Noorul Islam Educational and Health Institutions AP Majeed Khan, who died on Tuesday at the age of 91, was laid to rest at Neyyattinkara Town Juma Masjid on Wednesday.
Mr. Khan was being treated for age-related ailments.
He has been widely recognized for his contributions to education and health in Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
Born to Alisan Mohammed and Salma Beevi of Neyyattinkara, he entered the education sector by establishing a private technical training center NI ITI in Amaravila. He was also the founder of the first engineering college in Kanyakumari.
NIMS Medicity, established by Mr. Khan at Neyyattinkara in connection with the 50th anniversary of Noorul Islam Educational Trust, was another major step in healthcare.
The body was kept at the Noorul Islam Center for Higher Education in Thuckalay for public viewing on Wednesday morning.
A large number of people thronged Mr Khan’s house in Neyyattinkara to pay their last respects.

Governor Rajendra Arlekar; Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan; Bihar Governor Arif Mohammed Khan; Shashi Tharoor, MP; Tamil Nadu Dairy Development Minister T. Mano Thangaraj, BJP State President Rajeev Chandrasekhar expressed their condolences.
Mr Khan is survived by his wife Saifunnisa and children Shabnam Shafiq (Executive Director Noorul Islam Educational Trust) and MS Faizal Khan (Noorul Islam Center for Higher Education Pro Chancellor and Managing Director NIMS Medicity).
