US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer concluded his two-day visit to Delhi after several meetings with Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, during which they reviewed the core elements of the Interim Trade Agreement as well as the broader Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA), the Commerce Department said on Wednesday (June 24, 2026).
While both sides have “noticed substantial progress” by negotiating teams in recent months on agreements, the statement did not mention any deadlines for any agreement. The BTA was announced in February 2025 and was due to be completed in the autumn of that year. The framework for the interim agreement was signed in February this year, and the agreement itself was expected to be completed by April-May 2026.

She said that during the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to an agreement that is balanced, makes commercial sense and delivers “tangible benefits” for businesses, farmers, workers and consumers in both countries.
“Recognizing the growing importance of the India-US economic partnership amid the evolving dynamics of global trade, both sides reiterated their shared goal of expanding bilateral trade, fostering innovation and building resilient and trustworthy supply chains,” the statement said.
