Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has asked officials to encourage farmers in Kurnool district to grow onion of improved varieties, drawing on the district’s past experience with the crop.
After inaugurating the Jonnagiri gold mining project on Wednesday (June 24, 2026), the Chief Minister reviewed the development works in the district with Collector A. Siri, Superintendent of Police Vikrant Patil and other officials, in the presence of Kurnool MP B. Nagaraju, District Minister-in-Charge Nimmala RamanaseTG, Bharaciidu Industries, Geology and Exdustries Minister Kollu Ravindra and district MLAs.
“Horticultural cultivation in the district must be increased significantly. Horticultural cultivation is very low in Pattikonda constituency. Measures must be taken to increase perennial garden cultivation along with drip irrigation,” he said.
Based on past experience of onion cultivation, he said farmers should be sensitive to onion cultivation using improved varieties. Better development of agriculture needs to be achieved using scientific methods and measures should be taken to increase the income of the people, the Chief Minister said.
When Water Resources Minister Ramanaidu said that ₹100 crore was required to repair the irrigation projects, the Chief Minister ordered that the work be carried out immediately and completed within six months. “The work related to 246 reservoirs under the ‘Jaladhara-Jalaharathi’ initiative must be completed during this season. Water conservation measures like repairs of dykes and contour ditches must be implemented to raise the water table by three meters,” he said.
The Chief Minister recommended analyzing the conditions in specific areas and introducing measures to raise the groundwater level using various technical methods. He directed the officials to ensure the construction of pothole-free roads and guarantee proper supply of drinking water to the public.
The Chief Minister said there is positive feedback on the supply of urea and seeds; directed officials to create awareness about the ‘Seed app’ and ensure that farmers face no hardship. He also ordered better facilities and overall progress for students residing in BC and SC hostels.
Mr. Chandrababu Naidu lauded the officials for the increased satisfaction level in the re-survey of land in the district. He asked the district officials to provide better services to build public confidence in the administration, asked them to work together to achieve good results.
