Weather Update: Mumbai, Jaipur, Hyderabad, Bhopal on IMD alert as Monsoon advances into other states | Today’s news
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in its latest weather bulletin has provided an update on the progress of the monsoon, indicating that conditions are favorable for the further advance of the southwest monsoon into some other parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, remaining parts of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar in the coming days. Several states are on IMD orange alert today, including Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Bihar, Sikkim, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and parts of West Bengal.
“The Southwest Monsoon has advanced further into some parts of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, remaining parts of Maharashtra and some other parts of Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand today on June 24, 2026,” the IMD said.
Weather Forecast for East India
The IMD predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall along the west coast, over northeast India and sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during the week, and predicted wet spells till 28 June and again on 30 June. Among other eastern states, Jharkhand is most likely to witness downpour till June 27 and again from June 29-30; Odisha till June 29.
Weather Forecast for Central India
Moving on to the weather forecast for central India, residents of Vidarbha region of Maharashtra can brace themselves for heavy rains today and again on June 27-28. Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh will witness similar weather conditions during the next 4 days.
Weather Forecast for Northwest India
The weather forecast for northwest India said: “Isolated thundershowers, lightning and gusty winds (speed reaching 40-50 km/h with gusts up to 60 km/h) likely over Punjab during June 25-26 and during June 29-30; Haryana Chandigarh and Delhi during June 25-26 Utde Pratde West; West Rajasthan on June 29-30 on June 26 with gusty winds (speeds reaching 30 to 40 km/h gusting to 50 km/h) over West Rajasthan during June 27 to 28. Dust storms are likely in West Rajasthan today, according to the Meteorological Agency.
Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand will witness “isolation to scattered rains” in the next few days.
Weather Forecast for Northeast India
The IMD forecast isolated heavy rains in Assam and Meghalaya today and predicted similar weather conditions for Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura till 27th and for Arunachal Pradesh till 30th June.
Weather forecast for the West Indies
“Isolated heavy rainfall likely over Konkan & Goa during June 25-26 and during June 28-30; Madhya Maharashtra during June 25-27 and June 30; Marathawada during June 25,” the press release added.
Weather forecast for South Peninsular India
The IMD said: “Isolated heavy rainfall likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal during June 27-29; Kerala and Mahe during June 27-30; Lakshadweep on June 28; Coastal Karnataka and Telangana during June 25-30; North Interior Karnataka-3 June 28; June 27-30 Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam during June 26-28.” June.”
IMD alert cities
Hyderabad, Bhubaneswar, Jaipur and Bhopal are on IMD yellow alert today due to possibility of thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds. The IMD issued an orange warning for Raipur and predicted thunder and lightning at isolated places. Mumbai is also on yellow alert today as weather conditions indicate possibility of thunderstorm, lightning, light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds. However, the IMD has lifted the yellow alert for Delhi.
