Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday (June 24, 2026) filed an application in the Madhya Pradesh High Court expressing regret over his allegedly defamatory statement about Union Minister Shivraj Singh’s son Chouhan Kartikeya Singh.
Kartikeya Singh filed a defamation complaint against the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha in a Bhopal court. Mr Gandhi’s application filed by his lawyer said his statement was unrelated to Singh.
Kartikeya Singh has filed a defamation complaint against Rahul Gandhi in a Bhopal court over cases against MPs-MLAs, alleging that during an election rally in Jhabua in 2018, the Congress leader had mentioned his name while referring to the Panama Papers leak scandal, damaging his reputation.
The court issued summons to Mr Gandhi to appear in person, after which the Congress leader moved the Jabalpur High Court bench seeking to quash both the summons and the defamation case.
Justice Pramod Kumar Agarwal of the Supreme Court will hear Mr Gandhi’s petition on Thursday (June 25, 2026).
On Wednesday (24/06/2026), the petitioner submitted the records of the lower court as directed by the HC.
Advocate Sankalp Kochhar represented the appellant in the high court.
