Tucker Carlson reveals which Democrat Trump thinks Trump could win in 2028 | Today’s news

Conservative commentator Tucker Carlson said President Donald Trump privately believes California Gov. Gavin Newsom is the Democrat who can succeed him in the White House after the 2028 election.

Carlson said during an appearance on Alex Jones Live on Tuesday that Trump considers Newsom a formidable political opponent, despite the governor’s frequent public attacks on the administration.

“I know Trump is very confident that Gavin has a chance,” Carlson said.

Newsom has not officially announced a presidential campaign, but is widely considered a likely contender for the Democratic nomination should he decide to enter the race.

Carlson is harshly critical of Newsom

While Carlson acknowledged Newsom’s political skills, he offered a scathing assessment of the California governor’s character.

According to Carlson, Newsom’s greatest strength is his ability to communicate persuasively regardless of the circumstances.

“He’s a sociopath who will say anything if he passes a lie detector test,” Carlson suggested.

Alex Jones agreed that Newsom’s communication skills could make him a stronger candidate than former Vice President Kamala Harris.

“And she can talk, unlike Kamala!” Jones replied.

Potential matches in 2028 are looming

If Newsom wins the Democratic nomination, he could face a Republican candidate such as Vice President JD Vance or Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

President Trump would be constitutionally barred from seeking another term in 2028, although he has occasionally joked about staying in office beyond his current presidency.

Concerns about America’s ruling class

Carlson used the discussion to expand his criticism beyond individual policies, arguing that the United States is failing to produce capable leaders.

“The main problem this country faces is not that it has elites, every country has that — it needs them by the way, somebody needs to run things,” Carlson said.

He went on to criticize what he described as a system that rewards conformity over talent and innovation.

“The system we have to produce elites instead produces mediocre conformists who are completely devoid of creativity, scared, weird, easily manipulated…stagnant.”

Carlson warned that civilizations decline when they can no longer produce competent leadership.

“When the system can’t create a leadership class capable of running this huge thing that the ancestors built, then it’s going to collapse, and so we need to fix that, like, immediately.”

Carlson rejects presidential candidacy

During the interview, Jones also asked Carlson if he had any ambitions to run for the presidency himself.

Carlson dismissed the idea.

“I don’t want to run for president,” he said. “I want to be involved in offering some option.”

The comments are likely to fuel speculation about Carlson’s future political role, especially as he continues to distance himself from both major political parties.

The fallout with Trump is deepening

Carlson played a highly visible role during the 2024 presidential campaign, endorsing Trump and appearing at several campaign rallies.

However, the relationship has deteriorated significantly in recent months, particularly due to disagreements over US policy towards Iran.

Carlson has since expressed regret for some of his previous support for Trump.

Meanwhile, Trump has publicly criticized Carlson, calling him a “low IQ person” and claiming that Carlson has “lost his way” and is “not a MAGA.”

Breaking with the Republican Party

Earlier this week, Carlson announced he was no longer supporting the Republican Party, accusing its leaders of putting special interests ahead of American voters.

“I wouldn’t support the Republican Party,” Carlson said. “There is no way I would support the Republican Party.

He added that he is not going to join the Democrats either.

“I’m not going to support the Democratic Party – I don’t know what I’m going to do.”
