People-facing digital services are likely to be affected for 24 hours from June 25

A number of the Karnataka government’s people-facing online services are likely to be affected within 24 hours starting Thursday as major upgrades are underway at the State Data Center, which hosts many government sites.

Services will be affected from 9pm and the outage is expected to last for 24 hours.

The center hosts about 69 State Government Departments/Corporations, many of which offer public-facing online services. Among those likely to be affected are Aadhaar appointment, Bhoomi, Mojini, Mobile One, BangaloreOne, KarnatakaOne, Bangalore traffic police ticketing, Sakala, e-Janaspandana, RTO and Kaveri services and many more. The survey, which is conducted by the Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes, is also hosted by the SDC, according to the SDC website.

Government offices are also closed on Fridays due to Muharram.

According to Information Technology and Biotechnology Minister Priyank Kharge, the government at the Center is engaged in important technical maintenance, infrastructure upgrading and security for which its services will be temporarily unavailable. The minister said several government web portals, public services, certificate issuance and other online services could be affected as they are all supported by the Centre.

Why is it necessary?

Mr. Kharge said that the upgrades were necessary to strengthen the digital administration system and increase its capacity, which will also enable speedy service delivery without any technical glitches. He said the state has witnessed an increase in digital services in recent years and there is a need to increase capacity.
