Kathy Hilton, star of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, recently opened up about her continued connection with her former brother-in-law, Mauricio Umansky, amid his separation from her sister, Kyle Richards.
“I still care about him. He’s the father of my nieces. He was amazing with Farrah,” Kathy, 65, shared on the March 4 episode of RHOBH After Show. Mauricio, 54, and Kyle, 56, share three daughters—Alexia, 28, Sophia, 25, and Portia, 17—while Mauricio is also a stepfather to Kyle’s eldest daughter, Farrah Aldjufrie, 36.
“He and Kyle were a great couple, and we had so much fun together,” Kathy added.
Mauricio and Kyle announced their separation in July 2023 after 27 years of marriage. Kathy revealed that she has remained in touch with Mauricio, even checking in on him during significant moments. “It’s sad. I called him to check in on their anniversary. I was on vacation, but I called and said, ‘Is everything okay? I just wanted to see how you were,’” she shared.
While Kathy has been a supportive presence for her sister, she admitted the separation has also been difficult for Mauricio. “I felt bad for him too. I saw on his face that he was sad and confused. I felt it was just as hard on him. I just wanted him to know that no matter what, I care, and we’re here,” she said.
Kyle echoed this sentiment during the After Show, revealing that Kathy has been deeply emotional about the split. “Kathy has been very supportive of me, but she’s also been oddly emotional. She’s broken down with me about my separation several times. I think she’s still processing it,” Kyle shared. “She wants to see me happy and moving forward, but I think she’s also a little heartbroken that this happened.”
In a recent episode of RHOBH, Kyle addressed the fallout from photos of Mauricio kissing another woman at the Mykonos airport, which surfaced in July 2024—a year after their separation was announced. Kyle decided to remove “wife” from her Instagram bio during the episode, saying, “Why would I still have ‘wife’ in my bio after everything that’s happened? I feel stupid having it there.”
She added, “In the past, it was hard for me to think about removing ‘wife’ from my bio or changing my married name, but seeing those photos changed things for me.”
