The Shivamogga police conducted a comprehensive security check at the district court on June 24 following an email received by the chief district and sessions judge threatening to explode a bottle bomb on the premises.

In the morning, court officials informed the police about receiving a bomb threat email addressed to the Chief District and Sessions Judge. In response, dog teams and police officers armed with metal detectors rushed to the court. They thoroughly searched the premises and checked all visitors. No suspicious items were found during the operation.

Superintendent of Police B. Nikhil supervised the search and surveillance operation.

Chief Justice GA Manjunatha told the media that he immediately reported the threat to the police. “Such incidents have become a habit for some people. Similar threatening emails have been received in the district courts of Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Hassan and Dharwad. The contents of these emails are largely identical,” he said.

Justice Manjunatha further said that recently, unidentified individuals have been sending messages to advocates and court officials seeking financial assistance while impersonating judges. “They appear to be part of a larger fraud targeting the justice system,” he said.

Court officials filed a complaint with the Jayanagar police.
