After a month of anxiety among students over unexpected CBSE marks, glitches in the revaluation portal and technical glitches at some examination centers conducting the Common University Entrance Test-Undergraduate (CUET-UG), the CUET results have now been released, meaning admissions to central universities will begin in the next few days.
Participating universities and institutions will soon publish the counseling/admission schedule and merit list based on CUET score and other criteria of the respective university.
This year, the NTA released the results earlier than expected, with the timeline being streamlined, allowing results to be declared 14 days earlier than in previous cycles.
From 2022, central universities will conduct admissions based on CUET scores, rather than the earlier process of admitting students based on CBSE results.
Where can students apply for admission with CUET results?
NTA has the names of participating universities listed at cuet.nta.nic.in/participating-universities/. The list includes 49 central universities, 41 state universities, 27 deemed universities, 120 private universities and seven other government institutions.
The role of NTA is limited to registration, conducting tests, hosting answer keys, inviting calls, preparing and declaring results. Merit lists will be prepared by the concerned university or institute.
What should students do after receiving their results?
The NTA said it will share the results with universities and advised students to follow up with their desired universities for more details. Many central universities have their own admission portals where they start the registration process soon.
Some universities have published their admissions prospectus earlier in the year specifying the programs they offer as well as the specific eligibility of the program based on which they could choose the subjects they want to apply for in CUET.
More program details along with venue matrix and time tables are yet to be uploaded by the universities and can be expected in the next few days.
What was the process like last year?
CUET will be considered across central universities in the country and each university has its own processes. Candidates can visit their website for more details.
Universities are likely to go through a similar process as in the last three years. Delhi University, for example, begins by announcing the opening of the registration window on its Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) portal, followed by subject mapping, program eligibility and preference selection. Then the university will allocate their seats.
Will administrative exams be considered?
While admission to a central university depends heavily on CUET results, the role of board result varies from one institute to another.
Some universities require a minimum score such as 45%-50% in class 12 exams, while others have historically relied on board results as a tiebreaker in a situation where two students have exactly the same score. Further details, such as whether the board result will be used as a tiebreaker this year, are yet to be announced by the universities.
