Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) Chairman N. Manjula directed senior officials of the board to proactively take precautionary measures to ensure that potential water shortage in the coming days due to low rainfall does not trigger a drinking water crisis in the city.

Ms. Manjula assessed the readiness of the Board of Directors to deal with possible water shortages resulting from excessive rainfall. She held detailed discussions with the officials on the current water conditions in the Krishna Raja Sagara (KRS) reservoir and emphasized the need for its judicious use.

“From now on, all appropriate and necessary measures must be taken to address any potential problems that may arise in the future,” she said. She also discussed the feasibility of supplying water to the city from the Hemavati and Kabini reservoirs as an alternative arrangement.

Ms. Manjula further directed senior officials to get a comprehensive report from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) on the city’s groundwater levels and the current status of functioning wells.
