School students allegedly tied by TVK officials tie party flags to the median

A section of students at the Government High School in Vada Pudupattu village, which comes under Madhanur Panchayat Union, was allegedly roped in by local officials of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) to tie party flags on the steel median of the Chennai-Bengaluru Highway (NH 48).

Police said a group of students in the village were on their way to school on the stretch when local TVK functionaries told them to tie party flags with small poles on the steel center of the stretch on the occasion of the Chief Minister’s birthday.

Police said a video of the incident was uploaded to social media. After the incident, the party flags were removed. Police said a strict warning has been issued to local party functionaries and cadres not to use children and school students for such purposes.

School education department officials said the incident occurred off campus. As a result, the incident was not reported to the Director of Education, Tirupattur. However, an investigation is underway to verify the veracity of the incident, based on which necessary action will be initiated, officials said.
