Uttar Karnataka President Tatvapada Hadugarara Samavesha Siddaram Honnkal stressed the need to strengthen Tatvapadas, which is an ancient method of singing Tatvapadagararu songs, he said that Tatvapadas are gradually disappearing due to lack of interest and support of people to take it forward.
He was addressing a gathering after inaugurating a program jointly organized by Saint-Poet Kanakadasa and Tatvapadakarara Study Centre, Bengaluru, District Kannada Sahitya Parishat and Government Degree College at Yadgir on Tuesday.
Tatvapadas are written by selected poets who are designated as Tatvapadagararu in rural areas, with their life experiences in the 17th and 18th centuries, he said.
However, due to the disinterest of the young generation in understanding such Tatavapadas and passing them on to the next generation, the Tatvapadas face the threat of gradually disappearing from the art scene. Therefore, the state government should take initiatives to protect these rare and rich cultural songs, he said.
As an example of how the Tatvapadas are influenced by the Vachanas written by the 12th century saints, Mr. Honkal said that the Tatvapadas must be protected and preserved for the next generation.
