Tennis legend Vijay Amritraj, actor Mammootty and playback singer Alka Yagnik were among the 65 dignitaries conferred with the coveted Padma awards by President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday (June 23, 2026).

At the second civil investiture ceremony at Gantantra Mandap Rashtrapati Bhavan, the President presented the Padma Vibhushan to former Supreme Court Justice KT Thomas for public affairs and eminent Malayalam journalist P. Narayanan for his contribution to literature and education.

Alka Yagnik, Mammootty, American oncologist Dattatreyudu Nori, tennis player Vijay Amritraj, industrialist SKM Maeilandhan and social worker and educationist Vellappally Natesan received the Padma Bhushan from the hands of the President during the ceremony.

Rupi Soren, wife of JMM founder Shibu Soren, received the Padma Bhushan on behalf of the late leader.

The Padma Awards – one of the country’s highest civilian awards, are conferred in three categories – Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri.

The awards are given in various fields of activity — arts, social work, public affairs, science and technology, commerce and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, etc.

The Padma Vibhushan is awarded for exceptional and distinguished services; Padma Bhushan for distinguished service at a high level and Padma Shri for distinguished service in any field.
