The Jaipur administration on Tuesday (Jun 23, 2026) launched a crackdown on coaching institutes and libraries for fire safety violations, sealing 14 establishments and issuing notices to over two dozen others following a deadly fire at a coaching center in Lucknow that claimed 15 lives.
Municipal and police teams conducted inspections across the city to verify fire safety measures, including availability of firefighting equipment, emergency exits and mandatory Fire No-Consent Certificates (NOCs).
Fire chief Devendra Meena said fire compliance notices have been issued to around 600 units in the Heritage area since June 4, including nearly 150 training institutes and libraries.
Officials said several institutes were found to be operating without adequate security measures, necessitating immediate sealing action. More than 24 training centers have also been served notices for non-compliance with fire safety norms.
According to the authorities, the drive was conducted as a precautionary measure in view of the large number of students attending coaching centers in the city, so adherence to safety norms is essential in case of an emergency.
During the inspections, officials checked that the fire-fighting systems were functional, that the equipment was not expired and that the emergency exits were accessible. Documents related to fire NOCs were also requested from the institutions. Additional inspections and enforcement actions are underway, officials said.
