Monsoon advances in Maharashtra; IMD predicts rain till June 26

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms and rainfall in Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada till June 26. Monsoon has progressed towards Pune and Raigad and weather favorable for its further progress in Mumbai and other parts of the state. The IMD continues to forecast rainfall at isolated places in Konkan from June 22 to June 26, with moderate to heavy showers in Madhya Maharashtra and light to moderate rainfall in Marathwada during the same period.
For Konkan, IMD has predicted rainfall at isolated places from June 22 to June 26. Madhya Maharashtra will experience thunderstorms with lightning, winds and moderate to heavy rainfall during the same period. Marathwada is likely to experience thunderstorms with lightning, winds and light to moderate rainfall between June 22 and June 24.
The IMD has issued an advisory to fishermen along the South Maharashtra-Goa coast asking them to avoid sailing into the sea from June 22 to June 26. Wind speeds in the area are expected to reach 40-50 km/h, with gusts up to 60 km/h. The Met Office noted that the rainfall could cause localized flooding in low-lying and urban areas. Transport services may face disruption. Growing crops may suffer damage and sea conditions along the coast are likely to remain rough.
Monsoon, which remained stable over Harne in South Konkan and Solapur in Madhya Maharashtra for two weeks, has moved towards Pune and Alibaug in Raigad district. The IMD said weather conditions are favorable for the advance of monsoon in other parts of the state, including Mumbai.

While isolated thunderstorms are being recorded across the state, dry weather continues to prevail in most areas. Monsoon arrived in the Konkan region on June 6 this year. Typically, the monsoon reaches most parts of the state around 15-20. June. This year, even at the end of June, the state has not recorded satisfactory rainfall. The weather is changing from June 21 and the conditions are favorable for the further advance of monsoon.
