Massive dust storm hits Delhi-NCR, orange alert sounded – Video | Today’s news

The weather in the Delhi-NCR region took a sudden turn on Tuesday afternoon as a dust storm accompanied by strong winds swept through the region, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue an orange alert.

The Meteorological Agency has predicted heavy rain accompanied by thundershowers in various parts of Delhi-NCR between 3:00 pm and 4:30 pm. Videos shared on social media showed massive dust storms sweeping through several parts of Gurugram and Delhi on Tuesday, with strong winds and poor visibility disrupting normal life in the city.

“Dust storm followed by thunderstorm with light rainfall and lightning accompanied by gusty winds of 50-80 kmph is very likely to occur in Delhi and NCR including Meham, Sonipat, Rohtak, Kharkhoda, Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Matanhail, Jhajjar, Farrukhnagar, Rewaruwali, Sophie Hodal (Haryana, Pilakhua, Sikandrabad, Nandgaon and Barsana (Uttar Pradesh) and Bhiwadi, Tijara, Alwar, Nagar, Deeg, Laxmangarh and Nadbai (Rajasthan) in the next two hours,” the IMD said.

IMD issues nowcast warning

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said dust storms followed by thundershowers, light rain, lightning and gusty winds of 50 to 80 kmph are likely to affect Delhi and several parts of the National Capital Region during the next two hours.

The meteorological department has also issued a similar forecast for parts of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, including Sonipat, Rohtak, Jhajjar, Rewari, Palwal, Bagpat, Sikandrabad, Barsana, Alwar and Deeg.

According to the IMD, the dust storm conditions affecting parts of Gurugram and Delhi were expected to spread to other areas of NCR.

Strong winds are expected in parts of Delhi

The IMD has now issued a warning for North Delhi, predicting moderate thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and wind speed of 60-80 kmph.

For South Delhi, South West Delhi and New Delhi districts, the weather agency has predicted light rain along with dust storms or severe thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching 80-100 kmph.

Residents have been advised to exercise caution as adverse weather conditions continue to affect the region.
