Industries Minister S. Keerthana said on Monday that 25 industrial investment projects, involving a total investment of ₹3.3,000 crore, were shifted to other states during the five years of the previous DMK government. “The youth of Tamil Nadu has lost employment opportunities to the tune of 2.03 lakh jobs due to this migration,” she told reporters in response to the DMK’s claim that industry had shifted to Andhra Pradesh in the last 30 days. “During our tenure, no project has moved to Andhra Pradesh,” she said. The minister said that Hindalco had not held discussions with the Tamil Nadu government about the proposed investment. “The company already operates in Andhra Pradesh, where it manufactures aluminum components for iPhones. It has acquired Hydro Aluminum Extrusion, which operates in Kuppam. It is easier for the company to expand its existing operations there than setting up a new unit elsewhere. The current expansion proposal is for its Andhra Pradesh facility,” she said. Ms. Keerthana added that Reliance has not entered into any agreement with the Tamil Nadu government to set up a battery storage or solar manufacturing unit. “Reliance has informed the government that it has not taken any final decision on the project. Any announcement will be made after its annual general meeting,” it added.
