Meghan Markle and her daughter, Princess Lilibet, spent a delightful day with Serena Williams, enjoying a heartfelt playdate.
"When aunties come to celebrate… and play!" Meghan, 43, shared via her Instagram Stories on Saturday, March 1. "I love you, @Serenawilliams."
In the photos, Williams, also 43, was casually dressed in a burgundy outfit as she played a candy-themed board game with Meghan’s three-year-old daughter. Lilibet, affectionately known as Lili, wore a pastel-colored shirt with coordinating leggings and had her strawberry blond hair tied up in a sweet bow. (Meghan and her husband, Prince Harry, also share their five-year-old son, Prince Archie.)
Meghan, who set the tone of her Saturday post with Bill Withers’ "Lovely Day," also shared a second photo from the special playdate. In the image, she and Williams joyfully watched Lili play a Hasbro game.
In her Instagram Stories, Meghan hinted at the upcoming premiere of her Netflix documentary, With Love, Meghan, writing, "3 days until the party starts. Everyone’s invited ."
The final photo shared on Saturday showed Meghan and the tennis champion sharing a warm hug for the camera.
Meghan and Williams became close friends after meeting at a charity flag football event, the DirecTV Celebrity Beach Bowl. "We hit it off immediately, snapping pics and laughing during the game—not talking about tennis or acting, but just having good old-fashioned fun," Meghan once wrote on her now-defunct blog, The Tig. "That’s how our friendship began."
The Duchess of Sussex added, “She quickly became a confidante I could text while traveling, a friend I’d catch up with after her tennis matches, and someone I could grab lunch with in Toronto. We’re the same age, share a love for hot sauce and fashion, but what connects us most is our shared belief in exceeding expectations—our endless ambition.”
Their bond has remained strong over the years, with Williams even attending Meghan’s wedding to Harry, now 40, and hosting a baby shower for Meghan before Archie’s birth. “She’s the most thoughtful and sweetest person,” Williams told Access Hollywood in November 2019. “No matter what she’s going through, she always makes time for me. She’s just incredible.”
With Love, Meghan is set to premiere on Netflix on Tuesday, March 4.
