ASHA workers take out a celebratory march in Thrissur to welcome hike in royalty

Kerala Pradesh ASHA Workers Congress, affiliated to the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), welcomed a ceremonial march in Thrissur on Wednesday and thanked the UDF government for the decision.

The march, which took place from the INTUC district committee office via Swaraj wheel to the Arogya Keralam office, was followed by a meeting inaugurated by INTUC district vice-president KN Narayanan.

“The government has given hope not only to ASHA workers but to all skilled workers,” Mr. Narayanan said. He welcomed the decision to increase wages in the very first meeting of the government and appreciated the government’s assurance that it would consider pension benefits for the retiring ASHA workers.

He also appreciated the move to improve benefits for other sections such as anganwadi workers, cooking staff and ayas and the decision to create a separate department for senior citizens, terming them as progressive steps.

The meeting presided over by District President Shakunthala Sajeev.
