The Cyberabad police have issued a public warning against the use of nylon Chinese manja, citing a rise in serious accidents involving two-wheeler riders and increasing damage to animals and birds across the commission.
Emphasizing that the sale, storage and use of Chinese manja is illegal, the Cyberabad police said that in 2025, 53 cases had already been registered against sellers of the banned thread. Citizens were urged to use only cotton kite strings, fly kites in open areas away from traffic and power lines, supervise children and report illegal sale or use of manja to the police.
Police said several riders sustained serious injuries after getting tangled in the sharp strings of kites on busy roads including Miyapur–Chandanagar, Madhapur, Hitech City, Kukatpally and Gachibowli.
In one recent incident on the Balanagar road, a motorist sustained a serious neck injury when he was caught in the middle of traffic by a dangling string of a kite. Police said kite strings often remain suspended from trees and power lines, posing invisible and life-threatening hazards to road users.

Made of nylon and synthetic fibers coated with glass powder or metal dust, the Chinese manja becomes razor sharp and can cause deep cuts and fatal bleeding, especially when struck at high speed. Police have also highlighted the danger to wildlife, with birds dying after their wings become entangled in kite strings and street animals suffering serious injuries.
