Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani recently visited the iconic Somnath temple in Gujarat accompanied by wife Nita Ambani and son Anant Ambani. The family prayed at the revered shrine, continuing a long personal tradition.
Images from the visit were shared by news agency ANI, showing the Ambanis performing rituals at the temple amid tight security. The family is known to visit the Somnath Mahadev temple at the beginning of each year and seek blessings before embarking on new personal and professional journeys. They had a similar visit last year.
The Somnath Temple is located in Prabhas Patan near Veraval in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat and has immense religious significance. It is believed to be the first among the twelve jyotirlinga shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one of the most important pilgrimage sites in the country. Apart from its spiritual significance, Somnath is also a major tourist destination that attracts devotees and visitors from all over India and abroad.
According to a Sanskrit inscription on one of the towers in the temple complex, the path from the southern direction of the shrine to the South Pole is unobstructed, a detail that often attracts the interest of devotees and historians alike. For centuries the temple was a symbol of resilience, after being destroyed it was rebuilt several times.
The temple visit comes at a time when Mukesh Ambani is also in the limelight for outlining an ambitious technology vision for Reliance Industries Limited. In a recent manifesto addressed to over 600,000 Reliance employees and their families, Ambani described artificial intelligence as “the most important technological development in human history”.
He said the world had only seen the “tip of the iceberg” in terms of AI’s potential, adding that if deployed responsibly, it could help solve some of humanity’s most complex problems. “It is our responsibility to help shape that future for India and the rest of the world,” Ambani said, signaling Reliance’s intention to play a leading role in India’s AI-driven transformation.
Ambani outlined Reliance’s aim to become a “deep native AI technology company”, building on its role in India’s digital revolution. Emphasizing a clear national goal, he said the group’s motto is “Affordable AI for every Indian”, which aims to transform every aspect of the economy and daily life. The first phase of Reliance’s AI plan will focus on integrating AI across its internal operations to deliver significant improvements in productivity and results across the organization.
