The Nair Service Society (NSS) on Thursday broke its long silence on the controversy surrounding its political stance and warned against attempts to use the community organization as a pawn for political gains.
NSS General Secretary G. Sukumaran Nair, while inaugurating the All Kerala Nair delegates meeting held as part of the 149th Mannam Jayanti celebrations at Perunna, said the organization would take action if there were any mistakes in the Sabarimala gold theft investigation or in arresting all those responsible. He added that the NSS has decided to send a representative to the Global Ayyappa Sangamam, organized by the LDF government, as part of its moral duty to protect the customs and rituals of Sabarimala.
“The Sabarimala issue should not be politicized as it is essentially about preserving the faith. No one should think that the NSS can be used for political gain in this matter. When it comes to protecting the faith in Sabarimala, the NSS will not bow down to threats,” Mr. Nair said.
He also clarified the stance of the community organization on the gold theft episode, noting that certain campaigns led by private interests have created confusion among community members. “The NSS has no political agenda but follows an egalitarian outlook that allows our members to engage responsibly in any political discourse,” he said.
Dissident movements
Mr. Nair further criticized dissident movements within the organization and claimed that these efforts were aimed at destabilizing the NSS. “Behind these campaigns are some individuals who previously held positions in the organization. They are targeting the leadership to undermine the NSS. However, the organization is strong enough to counter such attempts,” he added.
NSS President M. Sasikumar presided over the proceedings in the presence of directors and board members. The Mannam Jayanti celebrations will continue on Friday as well. Cyriac Thomas, former member of the Commission for National Minorities, will open the event at 11 am. The gathering will be welcomed by Mr. Nair and presided over by Mr. Sasikumar. Poet and lyricist Rajeev Alumkal will deliver a memorial speech for Mannath Padmanabhan on the occasion.
