X suffers global outage, thousands of users report problems accessing platform | Today’s news
Social media platform X, formerly Twitter, owned by billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk, experienced a massive outage on Monday (June 22), leaving thousands of users in several countries unable to access the service.
According to outage tracking website Downdetector, problems with the platform were reported throughout the morning, with users complaining of difficulties loading content, accessing resources and connecting to the service.
Over 27,000 news in the US
As of 10:06 AM ET, Downdetector has recorded more than 27,000 reports of problems affecting X users in the United States.
The outage monitoring platform collects information from user-submitted reports and other sources to identify service disruptions. The actual number of affected users may be higher or lower than the numbers shown on the website.
Canada and Great Britain are also affected
The breach was not limited to the United States.
Downdetector data showed that more than 1,300 users in Canada were reporting issues with the platform as of 10:16 a.m. ET.
In the U.K., more than 1,400 users also reported service outages by 10:18 a.m. ET, suggesting the outage is affecting users in multiple regions.
Users are reporting access and connection issues
Many users have reported that they are unable to load posts, refresh timelines, or access certain features of the platform.
The outage sparked complaints on other social media platforms, with users sharing screenshots of error messages and discussing difficulties accessing X.
The cause remains unknown
The cause of the outage was not immediately clear.
X did not immediately issue a statement explaining the disruption, and the company did not respond to a request for comment on the cause of the outage.
It was not immediately known how long the outage would last or if all affected services had been restored.
