The Punjagutta police have registered a case against YouTuber Anvesh for allegedly making abusive remarks against Hindu deities in a recent video.
Film actress and BJP leader Karate Kalyani filed the complaint on Tuesday.
Based on the complaint, the police booked Anvesh under Sections 351 (criminal intimidation) and 352 (intentional insult with intent to cause breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act along with relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act.
The controversy stems from a video posted by Anvesh in which he criticized Telugu actor Shivaji’s comments on actresses’ clothing. However, some references in the video, perceived as derogatory towards revered Hindu figures such as Sita and Draupadi, caused widespread outrage.
After the video went viral, Hindu organizations staged protests across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, burning effigies of the YouTuber. Since then, several complaints have been lodged against Anvesh in Telangana, with some groups demanding strict action against him.
