Sivakami Natarajan conducts the veena concert
The Swaralaya Samanwayam dance and music festival ended on a high note, mixing classical tunes and moves with film songs to usher in the New Year at the Rapadi Outdoor Theater here on Wednesday evening.
The final day featured a star-studded line-up, including classical Veena and violin concerts, Kuchipudi and Bharatanatyam dance dramas and a musical orchestra by renowned artistes.
Veena virtuoso Sivakami Natarajan and her students opened the program with a rousing classical Veena concert featuring seven artistes from Swaranjali, Thiruvananthapuram.
Their performance of Veenalaya Tharangam combined the melody, rhythm and emotions of traditional Carnatic music to give the audience a different experience.
The magic of seven Veen in perfect harmony. This made the program exceptional. “The seven Veena players represented the seven notes that form the basis of music,” Ms. Natarajan explained.
A soul-stirring violin concert by Toronto A. Jayadevan and team took the evening to new heights. Despite his international and Hollywood recognition, Jayadevan remained true to pure Carnatic classical tunes, performing before his esteemed guru Nedumangadu Sivanandan.
Nanji Arul accompanied him on the mridangam and Thripunithura Radhakrishnan on the ghatom.
The energy in the Rapadi auditorium shifted gears as Avijith Das and his Bengaluru troupe livened up the open day with a stunning performance of Kuchipudi.
Gopika Raj Pillai from Chennai then presented an elegant piece of Bharatanatyam.
As the clock struck midnight, the talented group of singers took the audience on a musical ride through Malayalam, Hindi and Tamil songs, ending 11 days of non-stop dance and music in style.
