A dump truck hit Bhupalapally DTO and killed him while checking the vehicle

Jayasakar Bhupalpally District Traffic Officer (DTO) Venkanna was killed after he was hit by a coal-laden truck while he and his staff were carrying out routine vehicle checks near the Regional Transport Office (RTO) at Chelpur in Ganapuram on the Parakal-Bhupalpally highway on Monday (June 22, 2026).

According to the police, the dump truck hit Mr. Venkanna while checking, causing him to die on the spot. The impact was strong and the policeman suffered fatal injuries. Mr. Venkanna was transferred to Bhupalpalla from Jagtial only about two weeks ago.

The tipper driver was reportedly taken into custody and a case was registered. Further investigation is underway.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed grief over the death of the DTO. Assuring that the government would support his family by all means, he directed Joint Transport Commissioner Chandrasekhar Gouda to submit a report after a comprehensive inquiry.

Meanwhile, Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar also expressed shock over the incident and said an inquiry into the accident has been ordered. The minister said in a statement that Mr. Venkanna died in the line of duty and offered his condolences to the bereaved family.
