West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said that the Special Intensive Review (SIR) conducted by the Election Commission of India was a huge “fraud” conducted with the help of artificial intelligence (AI).
The Chief Minister threatened to gherao the Trinamool Congress Election Commission Delhi Office if the name of the only authorized voter is deleted from the list.
“Around 60 people died due to SIR. Elderly people are being summoned for document verification hearing,” Banerjee said at a rally in Bankura district. People in the state were “tortured” in the name of SIRthe TMC chief added.
“If even a single legitimate name of a voter is deleted, TMC will entrust the Election Commission office in Delhi,” she added.
“People will not allow the BJP to come to power in West Bengal,” she said.
Banerjee alleged that the BJP had placed its members in the EC office in Delhi Exercise SIR. “They allegedly used AI to delete 54 million names, falsely attributing these actions to the ERO. The ERO association sent letters saying they had not done the job,” she said.
“If someone’s surname is Singh and it is written as Sinha in English, the name is removed. These are the absurdities people face. If your name has been removed, fill Forms 7 and 8. It is your right. Don’t give up,” she said.
TMC delegation to meet CEC tomorrow
Trinamool Congress delegation to meet Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on December 31 to express concerns over ongoing Special intensive revision of electoral rolls in West Bengal, the party said on Tuesday.
The delegation will be led by TMC leader in Lok Sabha Abhishek Banerjee and will consist of MPs from both Houses of Parliament.
A delegation of TMC leaders met with a full bench Electoral Commission On November 28, on the issue of SIR, alleging that several deaths had occurred during the ongoing revision of the electoral roll.
If even a single legitimate voter’s name is deleted, the TMC will entrust the Election Commission office in Delhi.
Earlier this month, a panel had asked District Election Officers (DEOs) in West Bengal not to summon those voters who were labeled as ‘unmapped’ for hearing. The pause only applies to voters marked as not found Central EC software but were found on hard copies from 2002.
On December 16 Electoral Commission released West Bengal’s post-SIR draft electoral rolls, deleted the names of over 58 million voters due to various reasons including death and migration, and redrawn voter profiles across districts and border belts ahead of the 2026 parliamentary polls.
