A food delivery man sustained serious injuries after he got entangled in a nylon thread, commonly known as Chinese manja, in Shamsheergunj, Hyderabad’s Old City on Monday.
The injured man, Jameel, a resident of Nawab Sahab Kunt, was driving towards Shahalibanda when the banned grinding string allegedly fell and wrapped around his neck, causing a deep cut. He was taken to a private hospital where he is undergoing treatment. Police said he received 22 stitches for his injuries.
Following the incident, Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender announced a reward of ₹5,000 for information leading to the detection of the sale of banned Chinese manja in the area. The city police said enforcement has been stepped up and action is being taken against those selling or using the banned chain.
Meanwhile, the Telangana State Human Rights Commission has registered a case of human rights violations based on a complaint filed by city human rights lawyer Rama Rao Immaneni. The complaint related to numerous incidents across the state involving injuries and deaths related to the use of banned Chinese manja. He cited the case of a minor boy, Jashwanth Reddy, who sustained serious injuries in Keesara. Sources said the matter is likely to be heard on Tuesday (December 30, 2025) by a panel headed by Justice Dr. By Shameem Akhtar.
Police reiterated that the production, sale and use of Chinese manja is illegal and urged the public to share information to help curb its circulation.
