Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who attended the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting in New Delhi on Saturday, was unable to discuss the possible cabinet reshuffle and other state-related issues with Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and returned to the state.
They both spoke
However, sources in the Congress claimed that a senior functionary in the AICC spoke to both Mr Siddaramaiah and his deputy DK Shivakumar and told them to be ready to visit the national capital after January 6, 2026 to discuss the proposed leadership change, cabinet change and KPCC chief change.
Sources claimed that members of Sonia Gandhi’s family are expected to go abroad later this year and this has caused the postponement of talks between State Congress leaders and the high command.
Protest in Karnataka
Meanwhile, in a message, the Chief Minister said that the Congress has decided to launch a protest in the state from January 5 as part of the nationwide agitation, against the newly adopted Viksit Bharat-Garantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G Ram G) by the NDA government.
In its meeting, the Chief Minister said, the CWC decided to protect the UPA-era Rural Employment Guarantee Act. The MGNREGA Bachao Abhiyan (Save MGNREGA programme) will be held from January 5 next year, arguing that the BJP government will have to face people’s anger as the new law aims to “take away money from the poor and give it to industrialists”.
The Congress Working Committee meeting was chaired by party chief Mallikarjun Kharge and attended by senior leaders, including Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi.
Meanwhile, a handful of people staged a demonstration outside the Congress headquarters in Delhi on Saturday demanding that a Dalit be appointed as the Chief Minister of Karnataka. A banner held by the protesters depicted Home Minister G. Parameshwara.
