Angered by BRS working president KT Rama Rao that he felt like hitting Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy with his shoes, Congress leaders hit out at Mr. Rama Rao, accusing him of promoting a crude political culture and making irresponsible remarks.
Government whip Adi Srinivas said Mr Rama Rao had “destroyed democratic values in the last decade” and introduced offensive language into public discourse. He termed Mr. Rama Rao’s comments against the Chief Minister as shameful and clarified that the Chief Minister had not made any remarks against the people of Andhra Pradesh like Mr. K Chandrashekar Rao and Mr. Rama Rao had done earlier.
He alleged that Mr. Rama Rao was silent on critical issues like diversion of water through the Pothireddypadu project and accused the BRS leadership of looting Telangana.
Bhuvanagiri MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy also hit out at Mr Ramu Rao and accused the BRS leadership of corruption, misgovernance and interference during his rule. He said the collapse of the pillars of the Medigadda barrage in the Kaleshwaram project exposed corruption.
The MP alleged that Mr. Revanth Reddy rose on electoral merit while Mr. Rama Rao entered politics through family privileges. Recalling BRS’s defeat in the 2023 parliamentary elections, he said the party had been wiped out in the 2024 parliamentary polls, warning that the public would deliver similar verdicts in future elections.
He demanded that Mr. Rama Rao should bring Mr. Chandrashekar Rao to the Assembly or he himself should assume the role of Leader of the Opposition and offer constructive suggestions to the Government.
Congress MLC Balmur Venkat issued a strong warning to Mr. Rama Rao, saying that any further inappropriate remarks against the Chief Minister would not be tolerated. Accusing Mr. Ramu Rao of arrogance despite repeated electoral setbacks, he said the people of Telangana will teach the BRS leadership an appropriate lesson at an appropriate time. Congress MLA Medipally Satyam and Fishermen’s Congress President Mettu Sai Kumar also warned Mr. Ramu Rao against resorting to abuse.
