All India Congress Committee president Mallikarjun Kharge has reportedly asked Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president K. Selvaperunthagai to “wait” while he considers his request to remove him from the post of state unit president. Mr. Selvaperunthagai recently met Mr. Kharg in Bengaluru and conveyed his request to him. Already before the elections, he expressed his wish to resign from the post of TNCC president.

Sources close to him said he had reached a stage where he was unable to function effectively as the Tamil Nadu Congress chief and was hoping for immediate relief. “Kharge asked him to wait for two or three days,” said a close confidant of the TNCC president, adding that he was disillusioned by the rapid severing of ties with the DMK, a long-time ally and committed anti-BJP force, for the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam.
